Addis Ababa February 18, 2022 (Walta) – A historian and researcher Abbas Al-Korki said the Adwa Victory is an emblem of Africa’s freedom as a whole.

In his exclusive interview with Walta Television, Abbas Al-Korki noted that Adwa is a battle for freedom and equity of all black Africans; It is the first battle that stands in front of the colonizer and the systematic injustice from colonization, theft and looting of wealth.

The Adwa Victory had a great impact in unifying the ranks of the Ethiopians, as everyone in Ethiopia rose up and everyone participated in this battle without exception, men and women of various nationalities, so that the battle then became a symbol of Africa’s freedom in general and Ethiopia’s freedom in particular.

He further said that the battle charted for Africans and the colonized countries a path to freedom and an outlet for survival, steadfastness, and exit from abyss of colonialism, as it inspired the colonized countries to struggle and fight for their freedom.

This generation shall prevail patriotic identity from ancestors and say no more to neocolonialism, defamation and fight against poverty at large, he underlined.

According to historians, the cause for the war, Wuchale Treaty, the invader’s Italian version stated that the Ethiopian Empire should return to the Italian Empire in its various fields and movements, whether military or commercial, etc. whereas, as for the Ethiopian version, which was in the Amharic language, there is no objection to joint dealings with the Italian Empire in foreign policy of the Ethiopian state.

Abbas added that Emperor Menelik II was alert to this loophole, and ordered the person who signed the agreement to amend this text in line with the agreed Amharic text, but he refused that and considered the amendment as a declaration of war to change the Italian position after that led to evasion and later Ethiopia wrote victory with blood and bones of its heroic people.

The 126th Adwa Victory will be marked colorfully on 2nd March 2022, nationally.
