Biden to Hold First Formal Presser on March 25

Addis Ababa, March 17, 2021 (Walta) – U.S. President Joe Biden will hold his first solo press conference on March 25, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced on Tuesday.

Should the March 25 date hold, Biden will have gone more than two full months without holding a formal news conference to start his tenure, though the White House says that he has frequently answered questions in informal settings instead.

Biden is behind his 15 most recent predecessors, who all held a solo news conference within 33 days of taking office, according to a CNN analysis of the past 100 years.

The Washington Post noted last weekend that Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump had given five news conferences by the same point and Barack Obama had given two.

Biden does take small numbers of questions from reporters, however, during daily events.

On Tuesday, he answered two questions just before leaving the White House for a trip to Pennsylvania to tout his huge economic stimulus package, which the president signed into law last week.

The stop in Pennsylvania was Biden’s first on a promotional campaign the White House is calling the “Help is Here” tour that also includes Vice President Kamala Harris, First Lady Jill Biden, and others.
