Birthplace in Paektusan Secret Camp

This is Chairman Kim Jong Il’s birthplace in the Paektusan Secret Camp.

Chairman Kim Jong Il was born on February 16, Juche 31 (1942), in this humble log cabin located in the thick forests of Mt Paektu, the ancestral mountain of the Korean nation.

Between the latter half of the 1930s and the first half of the 1940s President Kim Il Sung led the anti-Japanese armed forces to conduct military and political activities around the Paektusan Secret Camp, headquartered by the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army, which had served as the central hub of leadership over the overall Korean revolution.

Born into a patriotic and revolutionary family and embodying the spirit of Mt Paektu, young Kim Jong Il grew up being left open to the sounds of blizzards, gunfire and explosions during the sacred anti-Japanese war.

A patchwork quilt, reed mat, wooden sword and pistol, oil lamp and other things he had used are preserved intact in the cabin.

Behind the cabin soars Jong Il Peak, 1 798 metres above sea level, on top of which there are granite pieces inscribed with such words as “Jongilbong”.

Every year people from all walks of life including youth and students visit the log cabin to recall his noble life and exploits.

The precious memories evoked by the log cabin and the majestic spirit of Jong Il Peak are enough to make them convinced that Kim Jong Il lives in their hearts forever and his ideas and cause are brilliantly carried forward by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
