Cameroon Assumes Chairship of AU Peace and Security Council

Addis-Ababa, May 05, 2022 (Walta) – The Republic of Cameroon assumes the Chairship of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU) for May 2022.

The monthly chairship is the seventh for Cameroon since the creation of the Council in 2004.

According to AU press statement, the Cameroon Chairship comes within the frame of the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union to be held on 28 May 2022; devoted to governance and security challenges the continent has been facing.

The summit will focus on unconstitutional change of government, humanitarian crises and terrorism.  It will also look in to on security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin, the Horn of Africa, and joint political consultations with partners like EU Peace and Security Committee and the UN Security Council.

More importantly, some of the meetings will address emerging security concerns, including civil-military relations, the control of small arms and light weapons, and transnational organized crimes.
