Committee Urges U.S. to Support Ethiopia’s peace Building Efforts

Addis Ababa, April 5, 2022(Walta) – The American-Ethiopian Public Affairs Committee (AEPAC) underlined that the U.S. and Ethiopia’s relationship should merely be concerned with positive engagement while it is real-time for the U.S. to reestablish the historical relationship by supporting the efforts of the government of Ethiopia and fighting against the terrorist TPLF clique.

AEPAC tweeted that: “At a time when Ethiopia is recovering from the conflict, H.R.6600 and S.3199 threaten the fragile peace that has been achieved, these bills cannot pass.”

The Committee further noted that it is time for the U.S. to positively reengage with Ethiopia by reinstating AGOA and calling on the TPLF to lay down its arms.

According to the Committee, Ethiopia is recovering from a devastating terrorist TPLF- led insurrection and the government is drawing communities into a National Dialogue in pursuit of sustainable peace. Besides, money and aid are being delivered to those in need to revitalize destroyed businesses and foster healing.

“Now it’s time for the U.S. to positively reengage and support the efforts of the government of Ethiopia towards peace and rebuilding by restoring AGOA and bolstering trade ties. This will re-establish the historic U.S. and Ethiopia bond and prevent America and competitors from gaining a foothold in the Horn of Africa.

According to EPA, “it is vital that we work together for a better, safer future for all,” the committee underlined.
