Ethiopia Celebrates “One Health Day” Colorfully

Addis Ababa, January 20, 2022 (Walta) – Globally the 6th and nationally the 4th round “One Health Day” has been celebrated colorfully in different events in Addis Ababa.

The Day has been celebrated in the presence of government and non-governmental organizations higher officials in panel discussions and photo exhibitions.

Opening the occasion, Minister of Health, Lia Taddese (Ph.D.) said that the One Health approach is integrated, unifying that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems.

Moreover, Lia has expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the ongoing campaign to control Rabies all over the country done by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has been closely working with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in combating some zoonotic diseases in one health approach, according to Fikeru Regassa (Ph.D.), the State Minister of Agriculture.

He, furthermore, pointed out that the ongoing Rabies control Campaign coordinated and being run by the Ministry of Agriculture is one of the good examples that needs One Health Approach.

Ministry of Agriculture Veterinary Public Health Director, Dr. Sisay Getachew said on his part, nowadays, Zoonotic Diseases are a burning and serious issue all over the world.

One Health Approach is vital to overcome this problem, the director mentioned.
