Ethiopia One of Fastest Growing Countries – PM Abiy

Addis Ababa, July 6, 2023 (Walta) FDRE Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that Ethiopia is one of the fastest growing countries in the world.

The 28th regular session of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) is underway.

Prime Minister Abiy is giving explanations to questions members of the parliament raised to him in relation to the 2015 fiscal year (Ethiopian Calendar) performance report of the federal government.

On the Economy issues, the prime minister said that current global economy is suspended between hope and crisis.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts a decrease in the global economic growth. It is within this context that Ethiopia’s economy needs to be reviewed.

Regarding agriculture, “Just like wheat, rice is another cereal crop that we will make remarkable progress in the sector. Poultry farming at the household level and fruit farming is showing considerable growth, hence why we expect the agriculture sector to grow by 6.3%.” the prime minister pointed out.

On Imports and Exports, he announced that although commodities exports have decreased by 11% in comparison to last year, we have seen a 14% increase in service exports; 4.8% increase in remittance and 10.5% increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) earnings. The gap between exports and imports has narrowed this year.
