Ethiopian State Minister of Finance Discuss with Kenyan National Treasury, Planning Chief Administrative Secretary

Addis Ababa May 27, 2022(Walt) – Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, and the Chief Administrative Secretary, National Treasury, and Planning of Kenya, Eric Simiyu Wafukho, held bilateral discussions, in the company of the out-going  ADB Eastern Africa Constituency Office Executive Director, Amos Cheptoo, on the sidelines of the on-going Africa Development Bank Group meetings taking place in Accra Ghana.

The discussions emerged out of earlier consultative meetings with Africa Development Bank and World Bank representatives attending meetings in Accra and that focused on how inter boundary water, infrastructure, and energy programs in Eastern Africa could be supported.

Currently, the African Development Bank is funding quite a number of projects that are located in the Northern parts of Kenya, including;

  1. The completed Isiolo- Moyale Road Project Kshs approx kshs. 16 billion, which included the One-Stop Border Post at Moyale as a key component, and connecting Kenya to Ethiopia;
  2. The Drought Resilience Program was implemented at a cost of Kshs 5 billion estimated to be completed in 2022, covering six counties including Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, and Turkana;
  3. The program to build Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security in the Horn of Africa is expected to cost Kshs 4.5 billion and covers seven countries, mostly in the Northern regions of Kenya, including Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Garissa, and Moyale;
  4. The Lamu- Elwak Road project is to be implemented at an expected cost of Kshs. 23 billion; and
  5. The Kenya Towns Water and Sanitation Program for Garissa, Mandera, Marsabit, and Isiolo, was implemented at a cost of Kshs. 2 billion.
