Ethiopia’s Resilience Efforts Spotlighted at UNDRR Meeting in Geneva

Addis Ababa, April 23, 2024(Addis Walta) In a gathering at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Support Group Meeting on April 22 in Geneva, Switzerland, Ethiopia presented its experiences in Disaster Risk Management Strategy.

Amsalu Tizazu, Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Ethiopia in Geneva, discussed Ethiopia’s experiences and emphasized crucial aspects concerning the findings from the recent visit to Ethiopia last month by the UNDRR Donor Mission, the impacts of climate change-related hazards, the execution of the Sendai Framework, and the Early Warning for All Initiatives in Ethiopia.

Amsalu highlighted that the backing from the UNDRR and stakeholders has empowered the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission to elevate its readiness and response capacities, guaranteeing prompt and efficient dissemination of alerts and warnings to vulnerable communities.

Given the persistent impacts of climate-related hazards, he called upon the global community to strengthen their support and amplify Ethiopia’s holistic endeavors in disaster risk reduction and management.

This support has enabled the Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission to enhance its preparedness and response capabilities, ensuring timely and effective communication of alerts and warnings to at-risk communities.

The presentation underscored the importance of international collaboration in bolstering Ethiopia’s comprehensive efforts towards disaster risk reduction and management, particularly in the face of ongoing climate-related challenges.
