Gondar’s Epiphany Preparations in Full Swing

Addis Ababa, January 13, 2021 (Walta) – Gondar City Culture, Tourism, and Sports Department announced that it has finalized major preparations to warmly welcome celebrants to the colorful Timket celebration in commemoration of the baptism of Jesus Christ.

The Department Head Chalachew Dagnew told The Ethiopian Herald that Gondar town has finalized most of the preparations to host the great Timket festival.

According to Chalachew, the town set up one main committee and nine sub-committees, and they have shared responsibilities to observe the place of the baptismal (Ketera) in a bid to make the celebration effective. Similarly, all committees have been carrying out various activities hand-in-hand with creating a conducive environment to realize hospitality in the town.

A series of events will be held, and artistic events will be prepared tomorrow aiming at memorizing the birth of Emperor Tewodros. After tomorrow, it will visit Chena tourist destination area, a program operated by the Department and the University of Gondar. Likewise, sports events will be also prepared. On the eve, of Timket known as ketera, the town will organize a dinner program to memorize the relentless effort of the security forces to save Gondar from the terrorist TPLF destructive act.

“What makes this year’s Timket celebration different from that of many years is a number of Diaspora will participate in and the value of religion and history is well recited,” he said.

He further added that the Department will prepare a panel discussion with the Diaspora after two days of Timket (Epiphany)to discuss investment potential in Gondar and other related developmental efforts.

Likewise, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) announced that it has established three special hosting Centers to the Diaspora in Gondar town which are capable of serving an average of 500 Diasporas a day.

Town’s Bank District Director Demwozie Balebie told local media that CBE is ready to provide the Diaspora coming to the town with prompt services. The bank has also allowed up to 30 million Birr loan per person to the Diaspora who will be engaged in different investment sectors.
