Green Legacy Engenders Planting of about 200,000 Trees in Djibouti

Addis Ababa, August 10, 2022(Walta) – As the issue of climate change has been considered an issue of survival in Africa due to the high human and economic cost it incurs, the government of Ethiopian is carrying out multi-sectoral activities with this in mind focusing on Green Regional Cooperation.

Last year alone, Djibouti received & planted 190 thousand seedlings that will serve as sidewalk trees, edible and ornamental trees; through Ethiopia’s Green Legacy scheme.

The Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation of Djibouti, has established a Joint Taskforce comprising the Ministry of Agriculture, the Mayor’s Office as well as the Ministry of Environment of Djibouti.

Preparations are now underway to chart out the best tree planting strategies in Djibouti with the Joint Task Force.

Some 300,000 seedlings are planned to get planted as of December as the season is suitable by then.
