Addis Ababa, October 25, 2021 (Walta) – The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, arrived in Addis Ababa today to take stock of the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia.

In the course of his three-day visit, Peter Maurer will meet with Ethiopian authorities in Addis Ababa to discuss the consequences of the current situation and the ICRC’s ability to respond to increasing humanitarian needs as part of its neutral, impartial countrywide approach, and in particular in the north of the country.

Maurer will hold discussions with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, reviewing the extensive cooperation in response to humanitarian problems created by situations of violence and armed conflict.

The President  will also will meet with representatives of the African Union Commission to discuss a range of humanitarian issues and ICRC’s response across Africa in Addis Ababa to further strengthen humanitarian diplomacy engagement with the Commission and its Member States.
