International Solar Alliance Keen Strengthen Engagement with Ethiopia

Addis Ababa May 27, 2022(Walt) – Ambassador Tizita Mulugeta (Ph.D.), Ethiopia’s Ambassador to India held discussions with Ajay Mathur(Ph.D), Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Ambassador Tizita commended ISA’s programs and initiatives to member countries in which Ethiopia has benefited from joint initiatives and grants, especially on solar irrigation pumping and solar park projects.

Ajay Mathur briefed Ambassador Tizita about his recent visit to Addis Ababa and his meeting with high-level ministers and relevant stakeholders regarding ISA’s Solar Pumping Programme, implementation of the Solar Parks, and the launch of a Solar Mini-Grid and a Solar Rooftop Programme, as well as its plan to establish Solar Technology & Applications Research Centre (STAR-C) at Addis Ababa University.

He also added that Ethiopia is an active member of the ISA and ISA is keen to strengthen the engagement to a higher level.

The two further discussed the 4th upcoming Africa Regional Committee meeting proposed to be held in Addis Ababa in the coming month of July 2022 and Ethiopia’s readiness to host this meeting.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is a treaty-based inter-governmental organization founded in 2015 as per the Paris Declaration, aimed at the deployment of solar energy technologies as a means for bringing energy access, ensuring energy security, and driving energy transition in its member countries. Ethiopia is one of the 86 countries that have signed and ratified the ISA Framework Agreement in 2015.
