Ministry Acknowledges Members of its Peacekeeping Mission Opted to Remain Abroad

Addis Ababa, April 27, 2022 (Walta) – Some army members who were deployed for international peacekeeping missions has not returned home said the Ministry of Defense in a statement issued today.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Defense made public that its army members sent for international peacekeeping missions abroad before its Northern Command were attacked by TPLF forces and were allowed to continue their duty.

The ministry’s good gesture was exploited by TPLF propaganda operatives abroad, adds the statement.

“TPLF operatives have confused some of the army members deployed overseas by spreading false propaganda.  As a result, some army members who have served their country and their institutions have opted to remain abroad,” said the ministry.

“The members of the army who bought into TPLF propaganda of arrest and ethnic profiling have sought asylum in their host country. Some of those who have sought asylum abroad were previously found dead while fighting the Ethiopian government forces alongside Samri, [ TPLF youth hit group currently stationed in Sudan],”  it adds.

The ministry extended its appreciation to members of the army who returned home despite the havoc created by TPLF propaganda operatives.
