The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has concluded the three-day Seminar it has been giving to the Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs standing committee of the House of Peoples Representatives of Ethiopia.
The seminar aimed to equip attendees with the basics of the Foreign Policy of Ethiopia, the international rules governing relationships among countries, and the duties of various departments in the Ministry.
State Minister, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, in her remarks, underscored the importance of the seminar in laying foundations to create mutual understandings between the two institutions on pivotal issues of the country.
Accordingly, Ambassador Dina Mufti, Spokesperson of the Ministry, discussed the principles, values, and strategies of the Foreign Policy of Ethiopia.
Ambassador Ibrahim Endris discussed the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the treaties that define the framework for diplomatic relations between independent countries.
Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, Ambassador Feseha Shawel, Aklilu Kebede, and Abdurrahman Jemal, on their part, discussed Ethiopia’s foreign policy in light of its historical and geopolitical relations with neighboring and other African countries, including the African Union.
Ambassador Shamebo Fitamo, Yoseph Kassyae, Molalegn Asfaw, and Dawit Yirga also presented the Foreign policy of the country that governs its relationships with the Middle East, Europe, Asia-Pacific countries, international organizations, and the UN respectively.
Engineer Gedion Asfaw, Ambassador Ibrahim Edriss, and Dr. Yilma have also addressed the negotiations over the GERD and current situations regarding the matter.
The Geopolitics of the Red Sea area was covered by Dr. Abdeta Diribsa and Amb Fissaha Shawel, while Mr. Melaku Mulualem and Mr. Amare Wolde discussed principles and actions in Parliament diplomacy and the ten years strategic plan of the Ministry respectively.
Dr. Negeri Lencho, Chairman of Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the Parliament, made remarks appreciating the importance of the training and called on the Ethiopian Foreign Service Training Institute to continue creating similar engagements.
