Patriarch Calls upon Faithful to Support Displaced, Drought Affected People

Addis Ababa, February 27, 2022 (Walta) – The Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, his Holiness Abune Matias I has extended his blessings in connection with the Great Lent holy season.

His Holiness, in his message, has called on the faithful to show kindness to the displaced and people affected by the drought situation in various parts of the country during the Great Lent.

Abune Matias also urged the people to shun sinful deeds and observe spirituality by showing love and forgiveness to all during the grand fasting season.

Ethiopian Orthodox Christians spend 55 days of fasting season during the Great Lent remembering the fasting of Jesus Christ for 40 days and 40 nights on the Mount of Temptation.

The fasting season will be started tomorrow.
