President Sahlework Delivers Message Regarding IWD

Addis Ababa, March 8, 2023 (Walta) – FDRE President Sahlework Zewde delivered a message regarding International Women’s Day, 8 March 2023.

The president said that, International Women’s Day (IWD) should not be celebrated for one day in a year, but should be a 365 day event.

Ethiopia’s First female president, Sahlework on her message, stated IWD reminds women to look at the future from the perspective of women’s equality, benefit and human rights.

To get out of the problems faced in women and to ensure women’s equality, defend their rights, enhance awareness and enable them to have decision making roles, women should have strong common agenda, she urged.

The president added, strong Ethiopian women association must be established to make the women’s agenda a public issue, finds solutions, and ensure the benefits and equal participation of women.

“In order to strengthen our ties with other African countries, we need to strengthen the Ethiopian branch of the “African Women Leaders Network”, which was established four years ago,” she said.

International Women’s Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.

International Women’s Day is being celebrated across the world for the 112th time and 47th in Ethiopia.
