Addis Ababa, February 06/2023 (Walta) – A referendum is held in Southern Nations Nationalities Region (SNNP), in Ethiopia to create the 12th new region.
The referendum is underway in six zones and five special woredas. The zonal administration where the referendum is taking place includes Konso, South Omo, Wolayita, Gamo, Gedio, and Gofa while the five special woredas are Burji, Basketo, Ale, Amaro, and Derashe.
Ethiopian Human Right Commission Commissioner Daniel Bekele (Ph.D.) is in Arbaminch to observe the referendum on site. He said that the process of the referendum meets the standards set and that the opening process has been peaceful so far.
The commission sends its own observers in all the zones and special woredas.
