Trucks Carrying Humanitarian Assistance Reaches Mekelle

August 4, 2021 (Walta) – The Federal Government of Ethiopia announced that convoys of 157 trucks carrying humanitarian assistance have reached Mekelle, the capital of Tigray Region of Ethiopia.

The government has made public the news of the convoy through Ethiopian Current Issue Fact Check page.

The trucks containing food and non-food items include the assistance from WFP and UN agencies like UNICEF, UNFPA and other international NGOs assistance to the region, it stated.

It was made public that Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has obstructed humanitarian to Tigray region following an assault it opened on trucks carrying aid in to the region two weeks ago from Semera, the capital of Afar Region of Ethiopia.

TPLF is a group designated as terrorist organization by Ethiopian House of People’s Representatives. It was leveled as terrorist group following the assault the Tigray Special Force on Ethiopian Defense Force Northern Command camps throughout the region in November 2020.

Following the treasonous act of TPLF the Federal government has conducted a law enforcement operation in Tigray region for almost eight months. The operation has reduced the capabilities of the terrorist group, bringing some of its senior leadership before the court of law while few of them were on the run.

The Federal Government declared unilateral ceasefire and vacated its forces from the region in order to clear way for humanitarian assistance and give time for farmers to till there land. The terror group took the chance to terrorize the adjacent region of Amhara and Afar.
