UNDP Considering Ethiopia to Host Timbuktoo Initiative Hub

Addis Ababa, February 23, 2024(Addis WAlta) The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is considering Ethiopia as one of the potential countries to host the Timbuktoo initiative hub, a project aimed at creating a Pan-African startup ecosystem.

According to Ahunna Eziakonwa, the Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Africa, Ethiopia has great potential in innovation and entrepreneurship that could catalyze startup businesses.

The Timbuktoo initiative was launched on January 17, 2024, in Davos, Switzerland, and aims to mobilize $1 billion to transform 100 million livelihoods and create 10 million jobs.

Eziakonwa stated that UNDP is investing in Ethiopian universities to create spaces for young people to incubate their ideas and influence sustainable development.

She added that UNDP is working with the Government of Ethiopia in various fields.
