UNESCO to Commemorate Adwa Victory

Addis Ababa, March 02, 2021 (Walta) -The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will commemorate Adwa’s victory on 5 March 2021.

It will be celebrated for the first time ever with the theme: “The Battle of Adwa: A decisive milestone in the struggle for the liberation of the African continent”.

Dr. Hirut Kassaw, Ethiopian Minister of Culture and Tourism, and other UNESCO officials are expected to deliver opening remarks, according to the Ethiopian embassy in France.

The Battle of Adwa, where Ethiopia defeated Italy, changed the global order forever with the signing by Italy of the treaty of Addis Ababa on 26 October 1896, which recognizes Ethiopia as a sovereign equal of European nations.

The embassy said, it ignited and served as the catalyst for the liberation of Africa and the Panafrican movement.
