WFP demands the Return of Stolen Fuel

Addis Ababa August 25/2022 (Walta) The World Food Program (WFP) demanded the return of stolen fuel by Tigray Liberation Front (TPLF) from its warehouse in Mekelle.

The head of WFP David Beasley described the act as “outrageous and disgraceful” in his twitter post.

“Hours ago, Tigrayan authorities stole 570,000 liters of fuel for WFP operations in Tigray. Millions will starve if we do not have fuel to deliver food. This is outrageous and disgraceful. We demand return of this fuel now,” he said.

The US joins the UN in expressing its concern about the 12 trucks loaded with fuel.

“The fuel is intended for the delivery of essential lifesaving humanitarian assistance. We condemn any actions that deprive humanitarian assistance from reaching Ethiopians in need,” said US State Department through its Bureau of African Affairs.

The UN announced yesterday that WFP warehouse in Mekelle was forcibly entered by Tigray forces, who took 12 full fuel tankers with 570,000 liters of fuel.
