Xi warns China will not be ‘oppressed’

Addis Ababa, July 1, 2021 (Walta) – Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered an important speech in Beijing on Thursday at the grand ceremony celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

President Xi Jinping has warned that foreign powers will “get their heads bashed” if they attempt to bully or influence the country.

Xi also said Beijing would not allow “sanctimonious preaching”, in remarks widely seen as directed at the US.

The Chinese people will never allow any foreign force to bully, oppress or subjugate them, said Xi.

“Anyone who would attempt to do so will find themselves on a collision course with a great wall of steel forged by over 1.4 billion Chinese people,” he said.

“We have never bullied, oppressed, or subjugated the people of any other country, and we never will,” he added.

The 100th-anniversary celebrations on Thursday morning saw military jet fly-pasts, cannon salutes, and patriotic songs played.

Carefully vetted crowds were in attendance in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, many of whom were not wearing masks.
