23,000 KMs long road to be constructed, maintained

Addis Ababa, 28 July 2016(WIC) – The Ethiopian Road Authority has disclosed that it has planned to construct and maintain about 23 thousand Kilometers long road during the already commenced 2009 E.C. budget year.

Communication Team Leader with the Authority, Dereje Hailu, told WIC that the Authority has planned to upgrade and newly construct 1846 kilometers long road during this budget year. It has planned to maintain 21, 290 kilometers long road in the stated period, he noted.

Ten main road upgrading projects shall be undertaken in 2009 and this shall help to adequately connect the capital with the main roads, he underscored.

Eight projects shall focus on maintaining and upgrading roads that connect regional cities, he said.

The Authority shall give due emphasis to delayed projects that were scheduled to be accomplished during the completed budget year and finalize them in 2009, he disclosed.

About 46 billion birr is allocated for the Authority to accomplish its plans in the stated period.

The expansion of roads in different parts of the country has contributed for the continued economic growth that the country has witnessed during the last consecutive years, he noted.

Walta has previously reported that the Authority has accomplished 93 percent of its schedule for the completed budget year.
