Repi solid waste power generation project close to completion

The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy has disclosed that the construction of Repi solid waste power generation project has reached 87 percent and is to be completed soon.

Public Relation Head of the Ministry, Bizuneh Tolcha, told WIC that the construction is well underway with an allocated budget of 188.5 million USD.

It is expected to be completed in coming December, he said.
The construction is underway with a Cambridge based UK Company, he noted.
The power generation project is expected to generate 50 megawatts of water by using 35 thousand tons of solid waste every year, he underscored.

It is also vital in reducing carbon emission and create a better condition for solid waste disposal in the capital, he said.

The project, that is expected to create jobs for many youth, is to be one of the largest power generation sites in sub-Saharan Africa of its kind.
