Bureau says businesses resume operation

All businesses that have halted operation following the outburst of violence in some part of the Amhara Regional State have resumed their operation, the Amhara Regional State Trade and Industry Bureau has announced.

According to Bureau Head, Tesfaye Getachew, all kinds of businesses operating in the region have resumed their normal operation.

The head told Walta Information Center that the businesses have opened their door for business following the resurfacing of peace in the region.

The head noted that all businesses in the region have been busy serving their customers since the eve of the Ethiopian New Year and Eid Al-Adha.

Tesfaye said that the seat the Amhara Regional State, Bahir Dar, has experienced protest after a peaceful demonstration turned violent last month.

However, following a concerted effort to maintain peace by the residents of the region and the government, different businesses have opened their door for business, he said.

According to the head, different opportunist business owners have tried to stockpile basic goods in the aftermath of the unrest aiming to create artificial supply shortage which in turn push price up.

However, their efforts have been foiled by the concerted effort of cooperatives in the region. The role corporatizes plays in stabilizing market will be strengthened, he said.
