8.6 mln Tourists visit Amhara

The Amhara Culture, Tourism and Parks Development Bureau disclosed that more than 8.6 million people have visited various tourist sites in the region.

Heritage conservation and development section head with the bureau, Yeshiwas Desalegn, noted that the flow of tourists that was previously discouraged by violence in some areas of the region has now returned to the normal state.

More than 8.6 million people have visited different religious, natural and historic sites in the region including Lalibela, Tis Abay, and The Semen Mountains National Park.

The tourists were from America, Europe, Asia and other corners of the world.

The region has gained about 2 billion birr from the stay expenses of these tourists.

The flow of domestic tourists also has shown improvement as compared to the same period last year.

Promotion of the region’s heritages via exhibitions, bazaars, forums, festivals and other ways is scheduled to boost the tourism industry in the region.
