PFSA provides 10 bln birr worth medicines and medical facilities

Pharmaceutical Fund and supply Agency (PFSA) has supplied 10 bln birr worth medicines and medical facilities worth of 10 bln birr during the nine months of this fiscal year.

Public Relations and Communication Director of PFSA, Adina Bere told WMC that the agency procures 10 bln birr worth of medicines and health facilities from local and international markets during the nine months performance of this budget year.    

According to Adina, PFSA has procured medicines and medical facilities at a cost of 2.9 bln birr via regular health institutions budget and also purchased 2.1 bln birr worth of medicines and medical facilities through the support of international health program partners.  

PFSA receives medicines and medical facilities worth of 4.9 bln birr in addition to the medicines and medical facilities procured and imported to the country during the nine months period, Adina underscored.      

PFSA has established to import, supply and distribute medicines and health facilities across the country, said Adina. PFSA has distributed the stored medicines and medical products worth of 8 bln birr during the nine months of this budget year, he added.  

Adina noted that PFSA has distributed medicines and essential nutrients purchased at a cost of 21 mln birr to protect transmission of diseases in the drought affected areas of the country.           

PFSA need to focus on balancing the medicine supply and demand of the country in its future activities, Adina underlined. Ethiopia should have data management system to public demand of medicine and medical facilities, she inculcated.  

Ethiopia has imported  80 percent of  medicine products from abroad , Walta learnt.
