Factory has a capacity to produce 2.5 mln quintal sugars: Corporation

The Ethiopian Sugar Corporation said that Omo Kutir 2 sugar factory project has a capacity to produce 2.5 mln quintals of sugar.

Corporation’s communication Director, Gashaw Ayichiluhim said that the company, which saw its construction incepted back in 2014 by a Chinese company, Complant has now 94 percent of its construction completed.

The Factory went operation this year with a capacity of crushing 6,500 tons of sugarcane on daily basis, he said, adding that at time the factory stat production in full-swing, it will produce 12 thousand quintals of sugar out of daily crushed 12 thousand tons of sugarcane.

The director said that factory has a capacity to produce 2.5 mln quintals of sugar and 28 mln litters of etanole.

According to him, the factory will utilize 20 mw of the generated 60 mw and channel the remaining 40 percent to the national power grid.

He said the there are six factories including the operational one that have saw different level of construction progress.

The country will have annual production capacity of 28 mln quintals from already existing and would-be completed factories by the end of the second Growth and Transformation Plan.
