Amhara strives to contain illegal trade, reform sector

The Amhara Regional State indicated its readiness to control illegal trading practices and induce the trade reform that is being undertaken at the national level in the country.

The tendency to amass wealth through illegal trade should be effectively contained and fair and free competition should be induced and for this to happen the regional government is persevering for strengthening justice in the trade sector, improving the taxation system and creating adequate market for the country’s products both here and abroad.

As the trade sector is closely tied with all the other sectors in the economy, it should be administered in close integration with the various sectors in the country’s economic system. For this to happen, the government is making various efforts to create fair trade administration and competitive market, according the regional Communication Affairs Office.

A trading system that backs the country’s developmental state paradigm is vital to sustain the economic development and ensure its renaissance in the near future.

The Amhara regional state is working to bring more than 360 thousand traders into the legal trading system in the meantime.

The sector shoud be considered both as the main engine of government income in terms of tax revenue and creating huge job opportunities to the unemployed youth both in rural and urban areas of the country.

The discussion forum held on the issue stressed on the need to work in such coordinated manner and in participation of the traders and other stakeholders at large.
