South Sudan Delegation Returns From AU Summit Held In Addis Ababa

The 29th African Union summit in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia was successful, according to Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomoro.

"We have just concluded a very successful visit to Addis-Ababa, where we attended two very important occasions," Dr. Martin Elia Lomoro said.

Minister Lomoro made the remarks at Juba International Airport on Wednesday afternoon shortly after arriving from the two-day summit in Ethiopia where the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai represented President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Gai was accompanied by Senior Presidential Advisor Nhial Deng Nhial, Economics Advisor Aggrey Tissa Sabuni, and Cabinet Affairs Minister, Dr. Martin Elia Lomoro among other Ministers.

The 29th African Union Summit was held under the theme "harnessing demographic dividends through investments in youth."

South Sudan featured in peace and security, humanitarian crisis, implementation of the peace agreement, and the national dialogue.

Cabinet Affairs Minister Lomoro said the First Vice President was able to deliver to the African Union plenary effectively steps being taken to ensure that peace is realized in South Sudan.

Chuol P Laam, the Spokesperson of the First Vice President said he highlighted steps include the government's commitment to continue 'unreservedly' implement the peace agreement.

Laam said Gai also assured the African Union about the government's commitment to receiving the Regional Protection Force (RPF), and observing the unilateral cease fire declared by President kiir in May.

According to Laam the First Vice President presented to the A U, challenges such as the lack of resources for quick implementation of the Peace agreement.

He said the First Vice President, and the delegation also attended the 5th extra ordinary meeting of the IGAD Council Of Ministers which took place on the sidelines of the AU summit, where revitalization guidelines for implementation of the peace agreement were approved.

FVP Gai also held bilateral meetings with the Presidents of Uganda, Chad, Djibouti, and the Prime Ministers of Ethiopia, and Algeria.

He also discussed with the AU Chairperson and other international dignitaries from Japan.
