PCDP benefits 4 mln pastoralists

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Pastoralists Area Development says that about 4 million pastoralists have become beneficiaries of social and economic service delivery via Pastoralist Community Development Project (PCDP).              

Project Coordinator with the Ministry, Seid Umer, told WMC that about 1058 projects of social and economic institutions were completed and started service delivery in Afar, Somali, Oromiya and SNNP regional states during the concluded budget year.  

According to Seid, PCDP is implemented in 113 weredas and is able to make 4 million pastoralist community beneficiaries  of potable  water, human health services , animal health facilities , community road, water  and soil conservation activities  during the last fiscal year.           

Seid noted that the government has designed and strived to implement the pastoralist community development project for about 15 years to realize equitable development in pastoralist areas of the country.       

In addition, the  PCDP has targeted to execute  about  972  social and economic service  institutions within  113  weredas of four  pastoralist regions during  the current  budget  year , Seid underscored.    

The Ministry of federal affairs and pastoralist area development has allocated a total of 1, 911, 988,838  birr budget for implementation of the project this fiscal year, Seid stated.  The international fund for agriculture development ( IFAD) and world Bank(WB) donated  932, 751 ,073  birr and 728, 955, 000 birr  respectively.  

The pastoralist community development project was launched in 2003 G.C  and is expected to be finalized in 2018 G.C ,Walta learnt.
