Ethiopian delegation meets with Canada’s Minister of International Trade in Toronto

Addis Ababa, 19 September 2014 (WIC) –The Ethiopian delegation in Canada for the Canada-Africa Business Summit in Toronto met with Ed Fast, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, on Thursday (September 18).

Discussions centered on issues of bilateral investment and trade ties.

Alemayehu Tegenu, Ethiopia’s Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, gave fast a detailed briefing of Ethiopia’s green energy development projects, as well as the areas of opportunity.
He also underlined the importance of Ethiopia’s energy potential for neighboring countries and beyond.

Minister Alemayehu, who expressed his thanks to the Government of Canada for its continued support to Ethiopia’s national renewal projects, also reiterated the importance of strengthening the present Ethio-Canadian economic partnership in order to help sustain Ethiopia’s current positive economic trajectory.

Fitsum Arega, Director-General of Ethiopia’s Investment Agency, briefed Fast on the country’s investment and business climate and on the possible areas of engagement.

Fast, who underlined the need to cement business and investment ties for mutual development and progress, noted that Ethiopia was Canada’s priority partner in development activities.(MoFA)
