Disturbance at Embassy an act of desperation by lackeys of Shaebia: Amb. Girma Biru

Addis Ababa, 2 October 2014 (WIC) – The disturbance at the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington DC was an act of few individuals who do not want to recognize the growth and reputation of Ethiopia, the Embassy said.

Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the US, Girma Biru, said 10-15 people attempted to create ruckus in the embassy on Monday, September 29, 2014 at around midday.

They first went to the consular service office and rudely demanded to speak to the ambassador. And when the officer told them that they needed an appointment, they insulted him and went out and tried to take down the Ethiopian flag.

At this juncture, the security and staff of the embassy were obliged to prevent the illegal act, Girma said.

The security forces of the country were then called and arrived between three and five minutes.

The culprits were detained for an hour and they were released after their names and addresses taken, the ambassador pointed out.

Peace was restored at 5 P. M local time and the embassy functioned normally, he revealed.

No legal demonstration was called on the day, according to the ambassador who said the culprits were people that always create disturbances at demonstrations organized at various places.

“The individuals are lackeys of few political parties and Shaebia who use cheap and nasty language to insult Ethiopian government officials that come to the country for business,” he noted.

These individuals are known for their illegal activities by the police of the country and were upset by the very successful outcome of the recent discussion between the leaders of the two countries, Girma elaborated.

According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, he described the attack as a desperate act in response to the realization of the growing relationship of the countries. (ENA)
