Political parties should join hands on issues of mutual consensus despite policy disparities-Premier

Addis Ababa, 09 October, 2015(WIC)- Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, speaking at a consultation forum on the second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-II)prepared by the government to meet with opposition political parties, said all political parties should join hands and work together on issues of mutual consensus and interest despite differences in policy and ideology.

The government has met with different sections of the society and made consultations on GTP-II and this has helped to collect vital inputs for the successful implementation of the plan, the Premier noted.

Hailemariam urged participants drawn from various opposition political parties to contribute anything that they think is important for the successful performance of the second GTP.

Commissioner of National Plan Commission, Getachew Adem, has presented performance of the first Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP-I) and the participants have commented on it.

Most of the participants stressed on the need to abate administrative loopholes during the second GTP period.

President of the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDM), Chane Kebede, lauded the government for preparing the consultation forum and expressed his suspicion on the growth rate the government claims to register during the first GTP period.

Chanie said that though there were achievements in the education sector, a lot remains to be done to fill the gap in quality.

Coalition for Unity and Democracy (CUD) party representative, Darsa Dawano, on his part commented that there were undeniable achievements during the first GTP period but more effort should be made to further decrease inflation during the second GTP period.

Teshale Sebro, President of Ethiopian Vision Party, urged the government to prepare more consultation forums in the future. He stressed on the need to create integration between different sectors for the efficient use of the country’s resources.

The consultation forum is expected to continue tomorrow focusing on the goals set for the second GTP period and strategies set to successfully attain them.
