ANDM victory was pillar for development in Amhara Region- DPM Demeke Mekonnen

Addis Ababa, 20 November 2015(WIC) – The victory of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM) veteran fighters was the key pillar up on which multi-dimensional developments in Amhara region are based on, Chairman of the party said.

Speaking on a forum attended by veteran ANDM members and other stakeholders on the accomplishment of the first GTP and the plans set in the second GTP, Demeke Mekonnen, said the forum is aimed at creating adequate understanding on the major plans of the government on the occasion of colorful celebration of the party’s 35th anniversary.

The sacrifice made by the young fighters of ANDM has laid the foundation for the present overall development in the region and the forum shall help them understand the value of their struggle, he noted.

Demeke noted that agricultural production during the first GTP period has grown from 51 million quintals to 87.6 million quintals

Encouraging outcomes were registered in health and education sectors during the stated period, he added.

The double digit economic growth attained in the region has significantly contributed to the overall economic leap forward throughout the country, Demeke underscored.

Veteran members of the party also commented that they are happy to see the fruits of their struggle reflected on the lives of the people of the region and urged the public to fight against rent seeking and corrupt practices with unreserved commitment.

An association aimed at making the veteran fighters benefit both economically and socially is officially established on the forum.

One of the founding veteran members of the party, Yoseph Reta, said that the association is founded last year with 87 members and it is aimed at enabling the veteran fighters help each other and strengthen their economic and social bonds.

Developmental enterprises in the region have made financial support for the region and the association shall work by giving priority to helpless families of veteran members and the members themselves who are in need of support.

Members of the party have expressed their joy on the establishment of the association.

The association members shall be the fighters who joined the party prior to 1986 E.C.
