President Praises Efforts of Departing Egyptian Ambassador to Consolidate Relations

Addis Ababa, 6 August 2015 (WIC) – President Mulatu Teshome expressed today his appreciation to the departing Ambassador of Egypt for his contribution to the strengthening of the bilateral relationship of the two countries.

According to ENA, the president in particular pointed out the contribution of Ambassador Mohammed Idris in coordinating the 5th Ministerial Commission of the countries and the Third Ethio-Egypt Business Forum.

His contribution to the fruitfulness of the Ethiopian Public Diplomacy Mission and the historic visit of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was also cited.

The president, who noted the steady change of attitude on the utilization of River Nile, added that the two countries have a lot to work in this respect.

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) would consolidate the industrialization of Ethiopia and make the country a market destination to Egypt, Mulatu indicated.

He also stressed that it would have huge significance in the relationship of the countries in the region, in addition to the mutual benefits of the two countries.

President Mulatu further urged the two countries to consolidate their trade tie which is inconsistent with the age-old relationship of the countries.

On his part, Ambassador Idris thanked the government of Ethiopia and the people for their support and cooperation.

He added that many improvements have been registered with respect to bilateral ties between the two sides during the past four years.
