Oromo Diaspora Express Readiness to Invest in Country of Origin

Addis Ababa, 6 August 2015  (WIC) – Oromo diaspora visiting Arsi Zone have expressed their readiness to invest in Ethiopia as the business environment in the country is favorable.

Over 300 Oromo diaspora have visited today development projects and the Anole Monument in Arsi Zone of Oromia Regional State.

Ethiopia’s Ambassador in Kenya, Dina Mufti told reporters during the visit that the diaspora are keen to invest in their country.

He noted that they can indeed play significant role in promoting knowledge, experience, and transferring resources and technology.

The purpose of the visit is to enable them to see for themselves the development endeavors in the country and weigh the opportunities, according to the ambassador.

One of the diaspora who lives in Saudi Arabia, Gudina Haji said “this event has created golden opportunity for us to observe the investment environment here and also meet our families and friends.”

Gudina added that he has decided to work in the country to bring development.

Female member of the diasporawho came from Canada, Elili Tekele said on her part ” I have come to my country to visit the ongoing developmental activities. And I am very pleased with the progress the country has made.” Elili further indicated that she will again come next year to invest in her motherland.

In his welcoming speech, Chief Administrator of Arsi Zone, Sahadat Nesha said the zone has created favorable environment for investment during GTP-1.

According to ENA, out of the 420 investors that obtained investment licenses during the period, 268 are engaged in agriculture, industry, social services and other sectors.

The total registered capital of the investors is 5.7 billion birr, he stated.
