Ethiopian Anti-Graft Agency Retrieves Land Valued At 5.3 Billion Birr

Addis Ababa , 6 August ,2015 (WIC) – The Ethiopian Federal Ethical and Anti-Corruption Commission has recovered 5.3 billion Birr (about US$255.2 million) worth of public urban land during the past five years in addition to 27 residential and commercial houses as well as 22 vehicles, says its Public Relations Director, Birhanu Asefa.

He told the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) here Wednesday that maximum efforts were exerted in tackling corruption and rent-seeking, adding that the ability of the commission to fight corruption had been growing, although corruption continued to be a pervasive problem.

The commission has been introducing various systems to prevent corruption and solidify good governance, Berhanu stated.
The registration of properties of government officials was carried out and more than 90,000 officers had complied, it was indicated.

The director noted that although the commission had exceeded its plans, there were still gaps to be filled that were caused by a lack of experience.
