Addis Ababa ,6 August ,2015(WIC)- South Sudanese refugees continue to stream across the border into Ethiopia at a daily average of 211 individuals through the Pagak, Akobo, Burbiey and Raad entry points of Gambella state of the country, UNHCR said in a statement on Wednesday.
This brings the total number of South Sudanese refugees in Ethiopia from 15 December 2013 to 282,429 including 63,420 who were in the country before that period.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, UNHCR Ethiopia said relocation of refugees from Leitchuor and Nip Nip refugee camps to Jewi camp was successfully completed with a total of 46,133 refugees
The statement further said 3,939 refugees are awaiting relocation at Pagak entry point following completion of Level 1 registration in late May.
A total of 720 individuals in 286 families were inactivated in Pugnido Refugee Camp as they missed three consecutive food distributions as per the continuous registration standard operating procedures, 32 individuals were activated following interviews after continued absence from the camp the UNHCR said.
A total of 82 new born babies were registered in Pugnido camp only, according to the statement.
The UNHCR added that the general security situation in Gambella Region has calmed.
However, two Ethiopian National Defense Force soldiers have been fatally wounded as several others have been wounded following the exchange of gunfire with one of their members who had allegedly robbed money from a convoy escorted by his fellow soldiers. (http://en.starafrica.com)-
