Indian and Dutch Companies join the Flora Industry

Addis Ababa, 11 August 2015 (WIC) – Two new private flower firms from India and the third from Netherlands have lately joined the Ethiopian flower market, according to the Ethiopian Horticulture Agency.

The companies have already received 190 hectare of land from the Amhara region; starting production in Bahir Dar City and surroundings. Mekonnen Hailu, Spokesperson of the Ethiopian Horticulture Agency revealed, “the newly entrant companies will start exporting flowers in a year and six months period.”

In the 2013/14 fiscal year, Ethiopia’s generated income surpassed 245 million USD recording 6 percent increase from 2012/13 forex income of 230.5 million USD. Until recently, 140 local and foreign companies in Ethiopia are already engaged in exporting horticultural products. (allafrica.com)
