Ministry plans to rake in over 4.75 billion dollar from foreign trade

Addis Ababa, 11 August 2016 (WIC) – The Minstry of Trade has announced that it has planned to collect over 4.75 billion dollars during this ethiopian fiscal year.

Foreign Trade Directorate General of the Ministry, Assefa Mulugeta, said that the minstry has intended to earn the country more than 4.75 billion dollars from the export of manufactured goods, agricultural goods and mining during this budget year.   

According to the Director General, the Minstry has planned to earn 2.6 billion dollars from the export of agriculural products, close to 914 millon dollars from manaufacturing and almost 176 millon dollars from mining.  

The country also has planned to earn a little over 393 million dollars from the export of one million live animals, he said.

The plan takes into consideration ways to improve agricultural productivity, improving quality of exports and competitive price mechanism at the international market, noted the Director.

The Director also noted that efforts are underway to strengthen modern product marketing systems apart from tightening controls on illegal trade across borders.

In the just concluded budget year, the country has managed to generate only 2.86 billion dollars, falling short of its plan of 4.2 billion dollars.
