Addis Ababa, October 14, 2021 (Walta) – The 39th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) has begun in Addis Ababa.

The session deliberate on different agenda, including consideration of the report of the 42nd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC), report on the operationalization of the Africa CDC, concept note and the roadmap on the theme of the year 2022 on Nutrition and Food Security.

Speaking at the conference, African Union Commissioner Moussa Faki Mahamat said that Africa’s economy needs to be consolidated and food security needs to be ensured until 2022.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Christophe Lotondola on his part said that COVID-19 had severely affected African countries and that more effort should be exerted to make the vaccine accessible.

“Together, we can build a united and prosperous Africa”, he underlined.

The session is underway with the theme “Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building Africa We Want”.

The 39th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council is opened in the presence of the leaders and officials of the AU Commission.

It was noted that the session of the Executive Council will be concluded tomorrow.
