ESDP targets goals in development, peace and good governance

The Ethiopian Somali Democratic Party (ESDP) targets to achieve remarkable results in development, peace and good governance.

ESDP president Mohammed Isaq told WIC that the party, which is an ally of EPDRF, is undertaking evaluation of the last 15 years performance of the region and plans to achieve better results in development, peace and good governance in the future.

According to the president, the Somali region has built different medium and small scale dams using four rivers crossing the region to make the pastoralists beneficiary of the irrigation development.

The watershed development activities of the region registers exemplary results towards transforming the pastoralist community of the region to semi-pastoralist, Mohammed underscored. All exerted efforts in irrigation development will continue in the region, he added.   

ESDP has evaluated that all rounded efforts are needed to utilize   underground water and ponds to maximize irrigation development in the region, in addition to the medium and small scale dams built in the region, Mohammed indicated.

Mohammed noted that Somali region able to ensure sustainable peace in the last years due to the awareness and mobilization programs conducted to maintain peace and stability in the region.  

The region has started activities to identify problems of good governance through joint panel discussion of the people with medium and top level leaders, Mohammed said. Efforts are underway to avoid all good governance menaces in the region, he added.
