Ethiopian FM Delivers Premier’s Message to Sudanese President

Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu today delivered a message from Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed to the President of Sudan,Omar al-Bashir.

The two sides discussed on bilateral and regional issues of common concern for the mutual benefits of the peoples of the two sisterly countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They underlined that the people of Ethiopia and Sudan, whom they described as the sons and daughters of the river Nile, have lived side by side for ages both in times of prosperity and diversity.

President Omar al-Bashir said, “We will work to make sure that Ethiopians living in Sudan feel at home.”

“Ethiopia’s peace and stability is a matter of our national security concern,” he added.

Dr. Workneh for his part said “We attach significant importance to our relations with the Republic of the Sudan.”

Noting the recent release of over 1,000 Ethiopian nationals from Sudan prisons for reasons of clemency, he said “this showcased the fact that the people-to-people ties between the two sisterly countries is being strengthened.”

The two sides have also agreed to work together in moving forward the economic integration efforts in the Horn of Africa region as well as the promotion of regional peace and stability.

Similarly, Dr. Workneh met with his Sudanese counterpart, Dr. Al-Dirdiri Mohamed and exchanged views on aspects of bilateral and regional issues.

The Ethiopian Foreign Minister underscored that “Sudan remains a priority to Ethiopia’s foreign relations.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Sudan, Dr. Al-Dirdiri Mohamed for his part said his country continues to work for the strengthening of relations with Ethiopia.

“We will continue to work for the fortification of our relations at regional and international platforms,” he added. (FBC)
