PM Abiy Africa Suggests Establishment of Continental Media House for Africa

Addis Ababa, February 5, 2022 (Walta) – Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed stressed that Africa needs a continental level media house to share its narratives and combat misleading stereotypes.

The Prime minister delivered a statement at the opening ceremony of the 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly.

He called for the establishment of an African Union-led media outlet that could change the image of the continent and be a voice for African agendas.

The Prime Minister told the conference that Ethiopia has been facing serious security problems for the past years, adding that the country has done its utmost to reduce human and material damage in law enforcement activities.

He also thanked the African brothers and sisters for standing by Ethiopian side in understanding and supporting the truth of Ethiopia over the past years.

In terms of food security, he said Ethiopia has earned over 60 billion birr from its irrigation development activities over the past few years and has been fighting deforestation, which is a major food security threat to the country.

He noted that a total of 25 billion seedlings will be completed by the end of the upcoming rainy season.

“It is the right time for Africa to be represented by the UN security council’s permanent seat”, he added.
