Cooperation in Education needed to Realize African Prosperity – the New AU Chairman

Addis Ababa, February 17, 2024 (Addis Walta) The newly elected AU Chairperson for 2024, the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, underlined the need to cooperate in education in order to realize prosperity of the continent.

In his acceptance speech at the 37th African Union leaders’ conference at the union headquarters in Addis Ababa, the chairperson said that Africa’s 62 per cent of its population is young and every country has a responsibility to train and educate the youth force.

He underscored that in order to achieve Agenda 2063 and to realize a prosperous Africa, we should work with determination to educate the citizens to be competitive and qualified.

In addition to education, the Mauritanian president also urged the efforts to accelerate the implementation of African Free Trade Area.

To this end the works of linking Africa through infrastructure development should be applied with strong commitment.

The newly elected chairperson on his speech covered issues such as ensuring food security, tackling climate change, and building sustainable peace and resolve conflicts through peaceful means.
