Addis Ababa, April 9, 2024(Addis Walta) A high-level Ethiopian delegation, headed by Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, conducted a visit to assess the situation of undocumented Ethiopian migrants in detention centers in Saudi Arabia, in line with the agreement reached with the Saudi Arabian government.
This visit was carried out in accordance with an agreement reached with the Saudi Arabian government and aimed to assess the preparatory work required for repatriating citizens to Ethiopia and gather input for the technical committee.
In addition to this assessment, the delegation sought to identify priority returnees for the repatriation process and facilitate the official commencement of returning citizens to Ethiopia.
Recall that the Ethiopian delegation had engaged in discussions with a Saudi delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Al-Yousef in Riyadh over the weekend. During this meeting, both parties exchanged perspectives on strategies for repatriating undocumented Ethiopian migrants from Saudi Arabia and strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
