Ethiopia’s Chief of Staff Awarded South Sudanese Highest Medal

Addis Ababa, March 21, 2024 (Addis Walta) South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit awarded Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, the Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF), with the highest military medal of South Sudan.

The ceremony highlighted that the medal was bestowed upon Field Marshal Birhanu Jula in recognition of the ENDF’s contributions to the freedom and sovereignty of South Sudan, including the sacrifices made by its soldiers.

During the ceremony, President Salva Kiir expressed gratitude towards Ethiopia for supporting South Sudan during difficult times and for the sacrifices made by thousands of Ethiopian soldiers for the freedom of South Sudan.

He also mentioned that Ethiopia has continued to support South Sudan in building its military capacity.

The award ceremony held in Juba was attended by the Chief of General Staff of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces, top military and intelligence officers of the country, and ENDF’s top military generals.
