GIZ To Award Ethiopian Innovators in Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization

Addis Ababa, March 26, 2024 (AddisWalta)  Today, GIZ, the German Corporation for International Cooperation, will be recognizing innovators who have significantly contributed to promoting agricultural mechanization for smallholder farmers in Ethiopia. The organization plans to award over 33 million Birr to fund 11 innovative projects in the agriculture sector, which is a significant contributor to Ethiopia’s economy, generating almost half of its GDP.

This award aims to create an enabling environment for these innovators to materialize their ideas by improving the framework conditions and reinforcing agricultural mechanization in the East African nation. The nation’s agricultural mechanization strategy aims to eradicate poverty, create jobs, ensure food security, domestically replace imported items and promote small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Ethiopian government is currently adopting agricultural mechanization solutions as a way of achieving sustainable increases in agricultural productivity to achieve surplus production throughout the country.

The innovation fund award ceremony, which will begin in a few hours, has been organized by GIZ in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, according to ENA.
